WHEN TO READ
Introducing your child to the love of books and reading early on gives him the gift which will be his as long as life and memory last.
HOW TO READ
Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind as you read to your baby:
- Read when you are relaxed, in a good mood, and have plenty of time to read.
- Read as part of the family daily activity. Make sure there are few distractions going on.
- Point to and talk about what you are reading as you go along.
- Repeat familiar well-loved books and try out new books as well.
- End the activity gently. Put easily-damaged books up where the child can't reach.
- Involve your baby in literature in other ways besides reading: talk to her, recite nursery rhymes, sing, do action rhymes, and visit your public library, too.
