The Republic of Indonesia is one of the most unusual countries in the world, consisting of an archipelago that ranges from the Indian Ocean into the Pacific and with three of its islands shared with other countries. The islands range from unpopulated to densely populated, jungle to volcano to coastal regions, with numerous individual tribes scattered on outlying islands. Even libraries that specialize in the country could not hope to cover the massive amount of information that would be necessary to touch on every facet of such a varied and unusual part of the world. We can only give highlights that help to form a partial picture.
